How it Work
NEM Program
Only NEM (Net Energy Metering) program is available in Peninsula Malaysia for residential homes. Installation must be done by SEDA registered company and based on available quota set by SEDA.
NEM program works on a one-on-one offset basis. This means any electricity produced by installed solar PV system will be consumed first by the home owner during day time when there is available sunlight to generate electricity. Any excess electricity produced will be exported and stored on TNB grid. At night when there is no sunlight, home owner will now import back the electricity from TNB grid or even during day if home usage is more than solar generated electricity amount.
At the end of the month, the special NEM meter will calculate the difference. Home owner will pay the difference if import is more than export. Any excess exported electricity units will be carried forward to the next month. Any excess exported electrictiy must be used by 31st December of the calendar year and cannot be carried forward to the next year.
Residential clients will not be paid for any excess electricity produced by their solar PV system. The previous FIT (Fit-In-Tariff) program ended in 2016 for residential clients.
